The history
of Kloster Nimbschen

Our hotel is situated on historical ground of the former Cistercian monastery "Marienthron" zu Nimbschen.

The most famous nun was Katharina von Bora, a lutheran, whose 500 birthday was celebrated in 1999. She was born as a daughter of an impoverished nobleman on January 29, 1499 and lived in the abbey of Grimma from 1509 to 1523.

The village got acquainted for the spectacular escape of Katharina on April 6/7, 1523, which gave reason to various stories. One of these is performed on special occasions in front of the historical scenery of the monastery ruin by a theatre troupe of the grammar school "St. Augustin".
